Easter Weekend

Easter weekend was gorgeous here!  It was the beginning of Spring Break and could not have felt much springier!  We started off the weekend with the annual Easterpalooza at our church.  There were delicious pancakes - which the boys loved squirting syrup all over.
There were inflatables of all kinds - lots and lots of jumping around....
And there were our friends, the Williams family.  The kids had a great time running around and I was amazed at how much more independent they all were a year later.  Last year Lucas got out in the egg hunt and just cried.  This year, no problems.  They all just played and played, and when it was time to go, there wasn't too much crying over the fact that we were not willing to wait in the giant line for facepainting...

The next morning, the Easter Bunny did manage to make it to our house.  He hid all the eggs in the man cave, which became the "Cave of Men" according to the boys.  Which really made me laugh.

They had fun looking for the eggs and were excited to see what the bunny had left.  The most exciting part was the Pokemon cards.  Which Brian promptly opened and played with.  Apparently the bunny forgot to leave him a pack...
We headed into church and then went out to my Nana's to drop off some Easter flowers.  I am so mad that I didn't take a picture with her, but it was a quick visit - had to get moving once Lucas decided that the oxygen tubes were kind of a jump rope - and I did not manage a picture.  It was great to see her doing so well and happy.
That afternoon we invited our friends over to eat with us.  Their dad had to work, but they came bearing great food and big smiles.  The kids played outside all afternoon and we even got to sit on the back deck and eat.

Great people to spend Easter with.  Easter is all about love - loving God and loving the world - and so it was great to be with people we love to be around.  And Lucas really loved the cupcakes too.
The kids' shenanigans quickly turned to costumed battles - much theatrics and fun~!

I laughed and laughed and laughed and laughed.  Such a relaxing afternoon!

There are moments in life when you just pause and breathe, and realize how very blessed you are.  This was totally one of those days.

First Day of Spring Break '13

It's amazing to me, how sometimes the smallest adventures can be the most memorable - the most meaningful.....  Like this day....  We just kept going - all around town, enjoying the sun and some of the fun places around town.  I was amazed by the beauty of this city in the sun, and the boys had fun just running around.

"Time me, Mom!  On your mark, get set, go!"
"Take me to your treasure sir!"
There was a high school aged girl who started a water fight - which made these boys happy...
Ethan got reflective around the fountain, "Don't you think it looks like a dance?"
Lucas - "This has been a great day, but imagine if we could go up on that big ship!"

And that's how Spring Break started.  Relaxing, enjoying, chilling.
As it should be.

Team Ethan Fun Run

Dear Ethan and Lucas,
Last month, you participated in something big.  Your mama, dad, and many other awesome people came together to support one of your friends who is battling a horrible disease.  I want you to always remember this because you learned a lot through the process.
All month long, you were involved in the preparation.  There were many meetings, numerous discussions, and a whole lot of facebook and tweeting.  You were right in the middle of it all.  You wanted to know how many "likes" we had - how many "retweets" there were and you loved hearing all the dinging notifications as much as we did.  As we watched it grow from a small group into over 500, you were amazed at all these people that didn't even know your friend that were willing to stand up.
This month, you impressed me with your compassion.  You never once got jealous of the cool stuff that rolled in for your friend or for the raffle.  You never once complained about the many hours we spent on the project.  You were just as involved as we were and you were so excited to help.  You care about your friend, and your friendship with him grew throughout the process.
The night before, you stayed with Uma and Upa.  They kept you busy while your mom and dad finished up getting everything ready at school.  You were lucky you weren't there - though they really enjoyed it.
.  The morning of the run, you showed up early and offered to do anything you could to help.  You ran around and made everyone feel welcome.  When the head shaving crew was up and running, you were first up to show your support for your friend.  You'd been planning this for weeks and were excited that Ethan G. wouldn't be the only one with a shaved head anymore.  When you came to find me, I didn't even recognize you at first and was blown away at the difference.  But your smiles were so big and you were so proud of this "BIG" event you were part of.
You didn't see much of your mom and dad that day, as they ran around with walkie talkies trying to make sure everything was perfect (or as close as it could be) for your friend and his family.  You had a great time with all your friends and loved getting Uma and Upa to spend all their money on you.
When the run started, you lined up in the front with everyone else.  You looked so little with all 500ish people around you.  Your mama was blown away at the generosity of the crowd and fought back tears as she gave the last announcements and prepared for the send off.

The number of people was overwhelming.  You watched as your mama, joined by some dancers, yelled, "On your mark, get set, GO!"
And then you ran.  You smiled at me as you passed - but you were determined to GO!  Your mama was in total tears now - amazed...
And one by one, everyone made it past the finish line.  When your friend made it, there was much cheering and shouting and we all celebrated its very symbolic meaning.
There were so many amazing people involved.  The most entertaining group was a band called "Dagron".  They made you laugh with their outfits and their stellar dance moves.  You were so amazed that they came all the way from Seattle to help support one of your friends.
They also started a stellar cupcake war in which we discovered that your mouth (Ethan) was too small to fit a cupcake into.  You both laughed and laughed and it was such a great way to end the morning.
And when all was said and done, you waited patiently to find out how much we'd raised.  You'd heard talk about how much it costs to treat cancer and you just wanted to be able to help.
You did.  This big event that you helped with - it raised almost $7,000.  That is big.  And you were part of it.  You worked hard and stepped up and you made a difference.  You didn't do it alone.  Your family and your friends stood with you, and you made a whole lot of new friends in the process.
I don't ever want you to forget.  You have the power to help people.  You can make a difference.  And this mama knows you will.

And then there was March....

So much to be said about March....  First of all, the month pretty much centered around a big fundraiser we did - but that deserves it's own entry.  So, in a nutshell - March was all about swimming, basketball, legos, and friends....

Lucas continues to be a "spirited" 4 year old - silly and goofy, but also so determined.  He's learned a few sight words now and loves reading every night.  He even made me get him his own reading log like Ethan has for school.  Reading is pretty much the only time he sits still, so it's great!
Ethan finished out his season strong - with a great final game where he scored 3 baskets - woohoo!  I'm glad to be done with the games, but not to worry - tball started this week....
One of the more spontaneous events of the month...  We had superhero day at school, and I dressed as my boss.  Even got my hair cut.  (Which Ethan HATED and was not afraid to express). I adore her and so admire all she does and truly aspire to be like her some day.
The sun finally came out near the end of the month and we had some fabulously beautiful days.  And those days made me appreciate this house even more.  The view is awesome, the porch is so relaxing, and I. Just. Love. This. House.

In big friend news, our good friends - the Burns family - had a baby!  We got to take care of the other girls briefly right after Izzabelle was born, and celebrated with ice cream.
3 days later we got to meet the sweet girl and I could have held her for hours (I kinda did).  So sweet and perfect in every way.
