A Week of Cheese

With just a few days in between, with just enough time to unpack and repack, I was off to a conference in Portland and the boys were off to camp at Uma and Upa's. The boys had lots of fun. Ethan's fever finally broke and they were able to cavort all over town, hitting lots of parks and beaches (though they were freezing cold...). Uma and Upa took great care of them while Brian worked as normal and took care of the pets at home.
Meanwhile..... Mommy got a break! Our conference was all about Assessment for Learning, and there was a lot of great info. I did feel we are kind of past the reasoning for it - and that was a big focus of the conference. The food, however, was insanely bountiful and delicious! Usually these conferences have pretty simple layouts for food, but this was insane. My favorite was the afternoon spread - grilled veggies, enormous cheese platter, tiny cake squares..... We were done at 3:30 every day and I was rooming with one of the most fun people ever, so we had a great time. I haven't laughed that hard/much in a long time! We ate out the city - one night hitting as many cheese stops as we could. There was the mac and cheese truck, the grilled cheese truck, the gorgonzola waffle fries.... you get the picture. Laugh, eat, laugh, eat, repeat.....
Coming home was tough. We're all (including the boys) a little tired and having trouble getting into a routine. Yesterday was a lot of "Go up to your room. Come down when you can be nice" and Lucas yelling "I'VE HAD IT EFLAN!" But, today seems calmer and I have now gone 24 hours without cheese and survived! I decided it would be a good week for a cheese detox as my powers of restraint were severely weakened in the last few months. Wish me luck! One day off (and a focus on eating lots of fruits and vegetables) and I'm back to my pre-Portland weight... Now onward to my pre-WA weight.... That'll take awhile....

I thought of you when i read my niece's blog-they had a messy Monday at a friend's. Shaving cream station where everyone could cover each other, a colored noodle toss-(dyed spaghetti thrown at butcher paper attached to the garage door), a mud puddle and a water place. It looked so fun and it looked like you!
